Blank Street, a rapidly expanding coffee startup known for its matcha beverages popular on social media, is launching operations in the Los Angeles area with plans to open four locations throughout 2026. The company will debut its first outlets in Beverly Hills and Studio City this June, followed by additional stores in West Hollywood and Malibu later in the year.

Founded in New York City during the COVID-19 pandemic, Blank Street has grown quickly, now operating nearly 100 stores worldwide. The company, currently valued at approximately $500 million, has experienced a significant increase in sales, with average drink sales per store tripling over the past three years. Blank Street’s menu centers on its signature matcha drinks, which account for about half of its sales, targeting primarily a Gen Z customer base.

The startup emphasizes speed and consistency through the use of automated espresso machines and batch-prepared matcha, aiming to deliver a uniform customer experience across locations. A notable feature of its brand identity includes a distinctive barista “handoff” moment designed to encourage social media engagement, particularly on platforms like TikTok.

To bolster its appeal, Blank Street has collaborated with influencers and celebrities such as Emma Chamberlain and Sabrina Carpenter in its marketing efforts. The company views the Los Angeles market as a key stepping stone for its planned expansion along the West Coast, despite recognizing the intense competition posed by the city’s established coffee culture.

Executives have expressed confidence in their ability to carve out a niche in L.A., leveraging the brand’s digital-savvy approach and streamlined service model to connect with younger consumers. The upcoming openings will mark the company’s first footprint on the West Coast, setting the stage for further growth in the region.
