A 33-year-old man was fatally shot Thursday afternoon outside a public housing complex on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, according to authorities.
Police reported that the victim, identified as Rashaun Hopkins, was struck multiple times in the chest around 4:57 p.m. on West 104th Street near Manhattan Avenue, in front of the Frederick Douglass Houses. Officers transported Hopkins to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Hopkins was a resident of one of the towers within the Frederick Douglass Houses, located approximately three blocks from the shooting site.
Law enforcement officials are seeking a suspect described as a man dressed in black and wearing a ski mask, who was last seen fleeing the scene on a scooter. Investigators continue to pursue leads surrounding the circumstances of the shooting.
