Adam Keighran is set to participate in Wembley Stadium’s Challenge Cup final after previously watching from the sidelines during Wigan Warriors’ successful 2024 campaign. The Australian centre missed that showpiece match due to suspension but played a key role in supporting his replacement, rookie Zach Eckersley, who scored a try and helped secure the victory in only his fifth senior game.

Reflecting on that experience, Keighran emphasized the importance of boosting Eckersley’s confidence rather than providing technical guidance. “It was probably more getting his confidence up,” he said. “It was just more reassuring him that he can do the job — and he proved he could.” Keighran made himself available for extra training sessions to assist the young player and felt their collaboration during that period forged a strong connection.

Looking ahead to the upcoming Wembley clash against Hull Kingston Rovers, Keighran said the relationship he has developed with Eckersley remains crucial. “We’ve built a relationship where we know what each other’s doing. It’s been pretty evident,” he said, highlighting the mutual understanding necessary for their partnership on the field.

The 29-year-old also reflected on the significance of playing at Wembley, describing it as a major event for the town and the club. “It probably wasn’t until I came to the club that I realised just how big the occasion is. It makes it a lot more special,” Keighran remarked. As Wigan prepares to take on Hull KR, Keighran will be eager to make his Wembley debut a memorable one alongside his teammate.
