An economic expert has underscored the importance of enhancing direct trade links between Iran and China by activating land and rail corridors, aiming to circumvent the impact of a U.S. naval blockade. Ata Bahrami, speaking in an interview with IRNA, highlighted the need to remove obstacles to direct connection with China’s trade routes and to eliminate intermediaries, including those based in the United Arab Emirates.

Bahrami emphasized that boosting rail corridors and decreasing reliance on southern Iranian ports for foreign trade has become increasingly critical amid ongoing sanctions and restrictions. Strengthening these land-based transport routes, he argued, could enhance Iran’s economic resilience by providing alternative channels less vulnerable to maritime blockades.

The expert also pointed to China’s focus on developing multiple rail corridors as an opportunity for Iran to deepen collaboration. “We must cooperate with China on at least two routes of these corridors,” Bahrami stated, suggesting that a diversified approach to trade and transit could better insulate Iran’s economy from external pressures.

He further observed that in the current multipolar global environment, countries must maintain a range of political and economic options to navigate sanctions and other constraints effectively. This strategic flexibility, according to Bahrami, is essential for mitigating risks and sustaining economic activity amid changing international dynamics.
