Egypt’s ambassador to Qatar, Walid El-Feky, praised Qatar’s dedication to promoting culture and knowledge, highlighting the Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) as a key example of the country’s efforts to foster intellectual development in the Arab world. Speaking during the event’s 35th edition, El-Feky described the book fair as one of the region’s most significant cultural gatherings, drawing wide participation from Arab and international publishers as well as large audiences of readers and cultural enthusiasts.
El-Feky emphasized the importance of Egypt’s presence at the fair, viewing it as an extension of the country’s cultural influence in the Arab region and a demonstration of Egyptian soft power through the dissemination of literature and knowledge. During his visit to the fair, he toured multiple Egyptian publishing houses and noted the strong interest from both Qatari citizens and residents in the Egyptian exhibitions.
The ambassador also detailed the support provided by the Egyptian embassy to facilitate the participation of Egyptian publishers, including assistance with licensing and coordination with Qatari authorities. He commended the Qatari Ministry of Culture for its cooperation and responsiveness in addressing the needs of exhibitors.
In addition to the book fair, El-Feky outlined the embassy’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Egypt’s cultural presence in Doha through various events. He pointed to recent celebrations marking the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum and noted upcoming plans, such as the “Joint Egyptian-Greek-Qatari Cultural Year” set for the following year.
Concluding his remarks, El-Feky extended his best wishes to Qatar and the organizers of the DIBF for continued success, affirming that the fair is steadily reinforcing its status as a premier cultural event in the Arab world.
