Around 100 firefighters were deployed to contain a large fire that broke out early Wednesday morning at Kosher Kingdom, a Jewish supermarket located on Golders Green Road in north London. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) confirmed the blaze started at approximately 6:47 a.m., receiving 59 emergency calls from members of the public reporting the incident.
Officials believe the fire was caused by an electrical fault, although a formal investigation is ongoing. There have been no reported injuries. By 12:30 p.m., fire crews had brought the blaze under control, but the incident caused significant damage to the ground-floor retail space and led to the partial collapse of a storage area within the premises.
Above the affected supermarket are residential flats, whose occupants were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Fire officials confirmed these upper floors remained structurally unaffected by the fire. LFB Assistant Commissioner Craig Carter noted that the fire produced substantial smoke, advising local residents to keep their windows and doors closed while firefighting operations continued.
The Metropolitan Police stated that the fire is not currently being treated as suspicious and is believed to be an accident resulting from the electrical issue. The fire brigade remains on site to fully extinguish the blaze and ensure the area’s safety.
