Oliver Glasner has confirmed his departure from Crystal Palace following the club’s recent triumph in the Conference League final. The Austrian manager, who took charge of the Eagles less than two and a half years ago, led the team to an impressive haul of three trophies in just over a year—the FA Cup, the Community Shield, and most recently, the Conference League title secured with a 1-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano in Leipzig.

Despite the success, Glasner made clear that he had no intention of focusing on his future beyond the immediate celebrations and departure preparations. After Jean-Philippe Mateta’s second-half goal secured the win on Wednesday night, Glasner emphasized his commitment to the team’s efforts, saying he had deliberately avoided discussions about his next role to remain fully focused on the players and the final itself. “I had no desire and no energy to think about it, or to speak with anyone about another club or anything like that, because I felt obliged to be 100% focused on the boys,” Glasner said.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish confirmed that Glasner’s decision to leave was final and that there would be no attempt to persuade him to reconsider, despite the recent accomplishments. Parish described Glasner’s tenure as a valuable but time-limited chapter, praising the Austrian for the positive impact he had during his time with the club. Parish also revealed that the club has identified potential successors, naming Andoni Iraola, the outgoing Bournemouth manager, and Frank Lampard, currently at Coventry, among the candidates considered to fill the managerial role.

Looking ahead, Parish expressed optimism that Palace’s Europa League qualification and Cup victories would aid in attracting a high-caliber replacement and help retain key players such as Adam Wharton. However, he also acknowledged the challenges ahead, noting that European competition would significantly increase the demands on the squad. "Obviously, it’s another 60 games, probably, and we must be prepared, we know what’s involved now. We need to get ourselves in good shape with the right quality, right cover, right manager," Parish said.

Glasner marked the final match with celebratory moments, including a spirited slide down a guard of honour made by his players and a gesture of appreciation toward the fans and team alongside the trophy. He reflected on the emotional weight of the occasion, describing a “little melancholy feeling” and recognizing the final whistle in Leipzig as the definitive end of his stint with Crystal Palace.

Having already declined multiple job offers, Glasner intends to take some time to savor the victory, return to his family, and allow the next chapter of his career to unfold in due course. He credited the players for their hard work and trust throughout his tenure, underscoring the collective effort behind Palace’s recent successes.
