A Southern California woman was killed in a hit-and-run incident while waiting at a bus stop in San Diego on Friday. Police identified the victim as 27-year-old Katie Osorio, who was struck by a vehicle that drove onto the sidewalk at the intersection of National Avenue and 35th Street. Osorio was on her way to a second job when the collision occurred.
Emergency responders transported Osorio to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Authorities subsequently located and arrested the driver involved in the crash.
The driver has been identified as 41-year-old Assmaa Elayyat, who holds the position of Deputy Director for Self-Sufficiency Services with San Diego County, according to 2024 county employment records. The circumstances leading to the incident remain under investigation, and law enforcement officials have not yet disclosed details regarding potential charges.
Family members of the victim expressed their grief and are calling for justice in the aftermath of the fatal accident. The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the full scope of the events that led to Osorio’s death.
