Producers of the ITV dating show Love Island are expanding the scope of their casting for the upcoming series, drawing contestants from a wider international pool. This approach follows the success of last summer’s winners, Toni Laites, a Las Vegas party host, and British contestant Cach Mercer. Despite their popularity, the couple ended their relationship in March after a public argument at the Brit Awards.

While rumors circulated that The Only Way Is Essex star Ella Rae Wise might join the new series, executive producer Lewis Evans dismissed these reports, stating that although some individuals have expressed interest in participating, no deal has been made. Commissioning editor Amanda Stavri emphasized the importance of timing and fit in casting decisions, noting that while the show remains open-minded, they seek the right personalities at the right moment, referring to Joey Essex’s previous appearance as a unique case.

Evans confirmed that the show is incorporating a more diverse cast geographically, hinting at an international mix of participants. “We’ve done the American thing, so who knows?” he remarked, signaling potential cast members from outside the UK and US. The new series is set to premiere Monday at 9 p.m. on ITV2 and the streaming platform ITVX, hosted by Maya Jama.

Both Evans and Stavri acknowledged that the upcoming series will feature changes and new elements designed to keep the show fresh and unpredictable. Evans described upcoming modifications as “something that we’ve never done before” and acknowledged the risk involved, expressing hope that these innovations will resonate with viewers. Stavri highlighted the importance of balancing established audience favorites, such as Casa Amor, Movie Night, and Snog Marry Pie, with new twists to maintain excitement and surprise.

The producers’ aim is to sustain Love Island’s appeal by continuously evolving the format, ensuring that viewers remain engaged through unexpected developments. Elements such as introducing contestants with diverse cultural backgrounds, including a French or Australian presence, may contribute to this effort. The new season seeks to combine familiar segments with fresh concepts to capture viewers’ interest in a competitive reality television landscape.
