Two people have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Shanice Brookes, a 30-year-old charity worker and mother, outside a bar in Sheffield on bank holiday Monday. Brookes was shot near the One Four One bar on West Street at approximately 2:45 a.m. and later died from her injuries in hospital.

Jemele Rhone, 30, from Sheffield, has been charged with murder, possession of a firearm, and possession of criminal property totaling £10,000. Rhone did not attend a brief hearing at the magistrates’ court but was remanded in custody by Judge Spruce. Deiryen Dyce, 32, also from Sheffield, appeared in court and faces multiple charges including assisting an offender, possession of ammunition, possession of heroin, cocaine, and cannabis with intent to supply, as well as possession of criminal property amounting to £2,000. Dyce was also remanded in custody. Both individuals are scheduled to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday. A third man who had been arrested on suspicion of murder was later released and is no longer considered a suspect.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles described Brookes as an innocent bystander who should have been able to enjoy a night out safely. He emphasized the tragic impact on her family, including her young son, and affirmed that the police remain committed to providing answers to her loved ones.

Brookes’ family said she was a deeply loved daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, friend, and godmother, in addition to being an “amazing mum” to her son, who was central to her life. She was also due to graduate from university, reflecting her determination and bright future ahead.

Family members, including her cousin Tyler-Jay Reid, have shared personal reflections on the loss. Reid mentioned that Brookes had been planning to take her ten-year-old son to celebrate Arsenal’s recent victory at a parade this weekend—a trip she was “so excited” about despite not being a football fan herself. Her family described her as having “the biggest heart” and an unforgettable energy.

The investigation into her death continues as the city mourns the loss of a young woman whose life was cut short in tragic circumstances.
