Brian Spina, a 44-year-old operations strategist for Mattel, died after collapsing while hiking in Runyon Canyon Park on Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. near 1900 North Runyon Canyon Road, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Spina was hiking with one of his children and a family friend when he suddenly went into cardiac arrest. Emergency responders performed CPR at the scene before airlifting him to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, Spina’s condition deteriorated, and his death was later confirmed.
Family members described Spina as a devoted parent and expressed profound shock at his sudden passing. His aunt, Susan Lunday, said the loss was deeply unsettling, highlighting his close relationship with his children.
Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the circumstances leading to Spina’s collapse, and the incident remains under investigation.
