Sir Paul McCartney has shared that, had his music career not taken off, he might have pursued a career as an English teacher. The former Beatle made the remarks during a recent TikTok Live session, where he reflected on his early schooling and career prospects.
McCartney recalled that during his school years, a careers advisor expressed little confidence in his academic abilities, telling him he was "no good" and had "no future." Despite performing modestly in his exams, McCartney said he obtained a couple of qualifications, one of which was seen as a potential path into teaching English.
"I could have been your friendly English teacher," he said, noting that he had an interest in the subject and enjoyed English literature. He described the prospect of teaching as a fallback plan if music had not become his calling.
The musician, whose net worth is estimated at around £1 billion, is preparing to release his 20th solo album, The Boys Of Dungeon Lane, which is scheduled for release the day after his comments. McCartney’s reflection offers insight into the formative influences and alternative paths considered before his rise to global fame as a member of The Beatles.
