Two riders of an electric motorcycle were involved in a collision with a sedan in Burbank on Tuesday night, resulting in one fatality and one critical injury, police reported. The crash occurred at approximately 11 p.m. at the intersection of Alameda Avenue and Hollywood Way.

Upon arrival, officers found a male and female rider ejected from the motorcycle, both sustaining severe injuries. The pair was transported to a trauma center, where the male rider later died. The female rider remains in critical condition. Authorities have not released their names or ages.

The driver of the sedan remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. Preliminary investigations indicated the driver showed no signs of impairment from drugs or alcohol. Early findings suggest that unsafe speed on the part of the motorcyclists may have contributed to the collision.

This incident marks the latest fatal crash involving electric bicycles and motorcycles in the area, following two e-bike deaths earlier this month in Huntington Beach and Camarillo. In recent years, the popularity of electric mobility devices has grown among younger adults and teenagers, coinciding with an increase in serious and sometimes fatal accidents.

A study conducted by researchers at UC San Diego found that from 2018 through 2024, electric bikes were involved in at least 4,035 collisions across California. In response, the Burbank Police Department has urged riders and parents to familiarize themselves with local laws related to electric mobility devices, to use appropriate safety gear, adhere to traffic regulations, and operate these devices responsibly.
