A 73-year-old man from Worcestershire has pleaded guilty to outraging public decency after subjecting his elderly neighbor to more than a decade of harassment. Robert May was accused of repeatedly exposing himself and making sexually explicit demands toward 79-year-old Margaret Day, his next-door neighbor.

The victim’s daughter, Sue Mason-Day, 54, described how the harassment began with inappropriate text messages when her father, Brian, was still alive. May sent messages requesting to see her mother’s breasts, escalating over time to public indecency. According to Mason-Day, May would stand naked in his window overlooking their property and engage in masturbatory acts. In one recorded incident, May was captured on her home surveillance camera removing his curtains and exposing himself.

The abuse reportedly intensified after Margaret Day’s husband passed away in December 2014. Despite the family denying May’s request to attend the funeral, the inappropriate behavior continued, including unsolicited Valentine’s cards and early morning appearances outside her kitchen window.

The family installed a Ring video doorbell to monitor the property, which recorded May sneaking into the garden and fondling underwear hanging on the washing line. Police were initially involved but did not arrest May after that report. Further evidence was collected in July 2025 when Mason-Day and her husband filmed May’s behavior. May initially denied the allegations, claiming he was applying a topical pain reliever, but he subsequently changed his plea to guilty on September 15.

Mason-Day expressed the devastating impact on the family, emphasizing that her parents had maintained a friendly relationship with May, even bringing him meals when he lived alone. The harassment, however, left her mother too frightened to enjoy her garden, a place of pride before the ordeal began.

May is expected to be sentenced later this month at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court. The case highlights the prolonged emotional distress that can result from neighborly harassment and public indecency offenses.
