Qatar will observe its 12th annual Patient Safety Week beginning Thursday, with a focus on enhancing care for individuals with non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Organized by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), the week-long campaign carries the theme “Safe Care for Non-Communicable Diseases” under the broader slogan “Safe Care for Life!”.
The initiative aims to address patient safety challenges related to NCDs, which include chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. It emphasizes integrated, person-centered, and multidisciplinary approaches to care, drawing on behavioral insights to reduce preventable harm. By fostering collaboration among patients, families, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders, the campaign seeks to improve the safety, quality, continuity, and effectiveness of healthcare services across the country.
Key objectives of the week include promoting shared decision-making, enhancing diagnostic accuracy, and ensuring medication safety. The MoPH targets a diverse audience, encompassing patients and their caregivers, healthcare practitioners, facility managers, policymakers, healthcare leaders, and members of civil society. The campaign encourages informed patient participation, adherence to treatment plans, clear communication, and the development of robust systems for monitoring patient safety indicators.
Throughout the week, the ministry will conduct various activities to raise awareness, including a series of digital outreach efforts and media campaigns across multiple platforms. An event will be held at the ministry’s headquarters, welcoming employees, visitors, and healthcare sector professionals to engage in discussions and informational sessions. Additionally, virtual webinars and awareness sessions will be available to both healthcare workers and the general public.
Healthcare institutions nationwide will contribute to the initiative by organizing educational programs and safety promotion activities for their staff, patients, and visitors. These efforts aim to strengthen the culture of quality and patient safety within Qatar’s health sector.
Qatar Patient Safety Week was established in 2014 by the MoPH’s Healthcare Quality Department as a national effort to advance healthcare quality and patient safety. The annual event continues to promote sustainable collaboration between health authorities, providers, and patients, with the goal of delivering safer healthcare services throughout the country.
