A 14-year-old girl who was reportedly impregnated by her father and gave birth to his child on a California roadside has been located in Mexico, Monterey County officials confirmed Sunday. The teenager was found alongside her father, 38-year-old Sergio Galvez Perez, who has been arrested in connection with multiple alleged crimes, including incest and child endangerment.
Authorities became involved after the body of the couple’s newborn, referred to by law enforcement as “Baby Angelita,” was discovered on August 1 on Struve Road in north Monterey County. An Amber Alert was issued last month as officials sought the girl and her father after the infant’s death. The exact location in Mexico where the pair was found has not been disclosed.
The discovery followed a joint operation by the FBI and Mexican authorities. During the rescue, Perez was arrested and found in possession of narcotics; law enforcement has not detailed how he obtained the drugs. A few days after the Amber Alert was issued, the suspect’s vehicle was recovered in Monterey County.
Initially, authorities connected Perez and the girl to the investigation concerning the newborn’s death. In September, however, the Monterey County district attorney’s office clarified that the girl is a victim of her father’s abuse. In a public statement, the office emphasized that no child should have to endure such severe mistreatment and affirmed that ensuring the teenager’s safety and access to support services remains a priority.
The case has generated significant public outrage, with some critics expressing dissatisfaction with the initial handling and communication of the investigation. Comments on social media called for greater recognition of the girl’s victimization and criticized law enforcement’s response time.
Sergio Galvez Perez is known as a Mixtec musician performing under the name El Aguila Real y su Ritmo Sabroso, according to his YouTube channel. He is currently facing multiple felony charges, including incest, lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, unlawful sexual intercourse, child concealment, and child endangerment.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has announced plans to hold a news conference at a later date to provide further details on the case.
