A 16-year-old boy has pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of a teacher at Milford Haven Comprehensive School in Pembrokeshire. The incident, which occurred on February 5, involved the pupil, then 15, allegedly attacking history teacher Vicki Williams with a large kitchen knife inside her classroom.
During proceedings at Swansea Crown Court, prosecutor Christopher Rees KC described the attack as a “sustained assault,” stating that the boy deliberately stabbed Ms. Williams in the head and continued the attack until she managed to disarm him. The prosecution argued that the pupil’s actions demonstrated an intent to kill. The assault reportedly began when the boy entered the classroom around 3 p.m., closed the door behind him, and produced an 8- to 10-inch kitchen knife from his bag before striking Ms. Williams.
The court heard that a violent struggle ensued, during which Ms. Williams screamed and attempted to fend off her attacker. She eventually succeeded in grabbing the knife and ending the confrontation. Following the attack, the boy fled the school but was apprehended later at a family member’s home. Medical reports indicated that Ms. Williams sustained a wound to her scalp, scratches on her back, and minor cuts on her hands. She received treatment at Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest.
The boy, whose identity is protected due to his age, admitted to possessing the knife but has denied charges of attempted murder, unlawful wounding, and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. His defense maintains that the injuries Ms. Williams sustained were accidental, resulting from her refusal to hand over the knife during the altercation.
The trial is ongoing as the court considers the evidence and hears further submissions from both the prosecution and defense.
