Colin Newnam, a 17-year-old rising senior at Barrington High School, was killed early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Barrington Hills, authorities confirmed. The accident occurred around 2:20 a.m. near the intersection of Hills and Dales and Brinker roads. Two other individuals were injured and extricated from the vehicle, though their identities have not been released.

According to the Barrington Hills Police Department, the driver was operating a Mercedes SUV at a high speed when the vehicle left the roadway, struck trees, and rolled multiple times. One occupant was ejected during the crash, highlighting the severity of the incident. The police department stated the investigation is ongoing and no further details have been provided.

Colin’s sister, Marche Salley, described her brother as a loving and protective individual who brought joy to those around him. She emphasized the importance of remembering him for his character rather than the tragic circumstances of his death. Barrington Community Unit School District 220 superintendent Craig Winkelman expressed the school community’s sorrow and confirmed that counselors and social workers would be available to support students and staff affected by the loss.

“This was a horrible accident, and my heart goes out to the people involved and their families,” said Zach Swiatek, a homeowner near the crash site. Swiatek noted that the narrow, shoulder-less road has been the scene of multiple single-car crashes during his decade of residence, underscoring ongoing safety concerns in the area.

In a separate incident over the weekend, four teenagers from northwest suburban Cook County died in a collision in Bedford Park. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the victims as Cristofer Lopez Montan, 19, and Yuarem Garcia-Pena, 18, both from Woodstock; Yaritza Martinez Villeda, 17, of Crystal Lake; and Vanessa Morales, 14, of Palatine.

Chicago police said officers attempted to stop the involved vehicle around 2:15 a.m. Sunday, after a report that a passenger had allegedly pointed a gun at someone. The vehicle fled from both Chicago police and Illinois State Police at high speeds before leaving the road and striking a train boxcar in the 6900 block of South Cicero Avenue.

Community leaders expressed condolences for the victims. Shannon Podzimek, spokesperson for Community High School District 155, said Martinez Villeda had graduated from Crystal Lake Central High School and extended sympathies to her family. Kevin Lyons, spokesperson for Woodstock Community Unit School District 200, noted Lopez Montan had last attended the district about two years ago, and Garcia-Pena had graduated from Woodstock High School in May.

Authorities continue to investigate both crashes as communities mourn the loss of young lives.
