Eighteen individuals accused in connection with the 2021 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse were extradited to the United States on Sunday, authorities confirmed. The group will face trial in Florida over their alleged roles in the killing.

US Attorney Jason Quiñones described the extraditions as a significant advancement in securing accountability for Moïse’s death. He emphasized that the investigation extends beyond the direct perpetrators, aiming to identify those who financed, facilitated, or supported the assassination, as well as individuals who committed related crimes to enable the attack.

“Our work did not end with the men who planned and carried out this assassination,” Quiñones said. “We will follow the evidence wherever it leads… Five years later, we are still bringing defendants before American courts, and we are not finished.”

The Haitian Ministry of Justice confirmed the extradition of the suspects to the United States, reflecting ongoing cooperation between Haitian and US authorities in the high-profile case.
