A 21-year-old woman died after being thrown off a 130-foot abandoned railway bridge in Limeira, São Paulo, Brazil, without being properly secured to a safety rope. The victim, identified as Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, was fatally injured during a bungee-jumping attempt on Saturday. Multiple videos circulating from the scene show the rope coiled on the ground beneath the jump guides, who appeared unaware or negligent that she was not attached.

Witnesses, including de Freitas’ fiancé, reportedly shouted warnings after realizing the rope was not fastened. The footage captures the moment she was pushed off the bridge, followed by her striking the ground below, while those responsible did not intervene immediately. Two of the men responsible fled into nearby woods after the accident but were later apprehended by police using a military helicopter. A nurse who had been waiting for her own turn to jump rushed to provide first aid upon discovering de Freitas with a faint pulse, but despite efforts by rescue personnel employing a defibrillator, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that the operators running the jump were unlicensed and lacked official authorization to conduct the activity at the site, known locally as “Skeleton Bridge.” Police spokeswoman Andrea Dantas Levy stated that the three men involved were arrested and charged with homicide. According to investigators, two of the guides claimed to have experienced a “blackout” and did not recall whether they attached the safety rope or when the error occurred. The third individual reportedly said he was only assisting with the throw and did not handle the securing of the equipment.

Additional images from the day reveal de Freitas’ anticipation before the jump, including photos of her posing near the bridge edge wearing an ID bracelet. A visible warning sign on the bridge cautioned of the "Danger: Risk of death," highlighting the site’s known hazards. The incident has drawn attention to safety failures and the dangers of unregulated adventure activities at unauthorized locations in Brazil. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal oversight.
