The Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open is set to return to the International Tennis Centre at Zayed Sports City for its fifth edition, scheduled from January 30 to February 6, 2027. The WTA 500 event will feature a competitive field of 28 singles players and 16 doubles teams competing over eight days, with a total prize fund of $1.2 million and valuable WTA ranking points at stake.
Since its inception, the tournament has grown in stature and popularity, attracting over 60,000 visitors during the 2026 edition. Organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the event has established itself as a significant stop on the international women’s tennis circuit. It combines high-caliber sport with entertainment and community engagement, providing tennis enthusiasts and families across the UAE and the Middle East with opportunities to watch some of the world’s leading players in action.
Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, described the upcoming tournament as a key milestone in Abu Dhabi’s sporting development. He emphasized the event’s expanding influence beyond the matches themselves, noting its outreach efforts involving young players, schools, and the wider community. According to Al Awani, these initiatives aim to foster the growth of tennis, enhance the local sporting culture, and encourage active lifestyles.
“The tournament has grown significantly in just a few years, while its impact reaches beyond the court through its engagement with young players, schools and the wider community,” Al Awani said. He added that the event plays a role in inspiring participation, connecting communities, and reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s position as a global sporting destination.
Homaid Al Shimmari, Deputy Group CEO of Mubadala Investment Company, highlighted the tournament’s broader social impact. He underlined Mubadala’s enduring commitment to tennis and to harnessing the sport as a platform for positive community engagement. Al Shimmari noted that the event not only brings elite players to Abu Dhabi but also encourages youth participation in sports and fosters family and community cohesion through shared experiences.
By blending top-level competition with community initiatives, the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open continues to strengthen its role as both a premier sporting event and a catalyst for social connectivity in the region.
