Despite ongoing discussions, Hunter Goodman’s availability remains uncertain, with sources describing his likelihood of being traded as “less than 50-50.” Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Rays, Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers, and Chicago White Sox are all reportedly exploring catcher options. The Los Angeles Dodgers may also join the market depending on the health of their star catcher Will Smith, who is expected to be sidelined until September due to a neck injury.

The New York Mets have attracted some interest in Francisco Alvarez; however, the team faces a difficult decision. While Alvarez’s high potential remains appealing, his inconsistent performance has been a concern. Additionally, the Mets might not receive favorable offers, given the availability of other catcher prospects like Goodman and Rutschman, who are generally considered more desirable. The Yankees, for their part, have shown little inclination toward trading for Alvarez.

Beyond catching targets, the Yankees have long valued reliever Clay Holmes. Should they acquire Holmes, it could allow them to shift Ryan Weathers into a bullpen role, addressing multiple needs within their pitching staff.
