Six individuals, including four minors, have been arrested on suspicion of participating in a residential burglary ring responsible for at least 10 home break-ins over the past year in Irvine, California, authorities confirmed Thursday.
The group consists of two adults, Andres Zarate and Darlyn Alejandra Acosta Serrano, both 32, along with four juveniles aged 17. All suspects are reportedly Colombian nationals. Zarate was taken into custody at an apartment in Bellflower, while Acosta Serrano and one female minor were apprehended in Huntington Beach. The remaining three male juveniles were arrested in Los Angeles. All six suspects were booked Tuesday on charges of burglary and conspiracy, according to Irvine Police Department spokesperson Ziggy Azarcon. Zarate is currently held at Santa Ana’s Intake Release Center; locations of the other suspects were not disclosed. Zarate and Acosta Serrano were scheduled to appear in Orange County Superior Court on Friday, while no information was released concerning the minors' court dates.
Irvine Police Chief Michael Kent emphasized the department’s commitment to public safety. “This successful investigation sends a clear message to all that crime will not be tolerated here,” he stated, highlighting the use of advanced technology and resources in apprehending the suspects.
Officials have not confirmed whether the six arrested form an independent group or are connected to a broader criminal network. Azarcon noted that while numerous individuals are linked to the case, the six currently in custody are believed to be the principal suspects involved in the burglaries. Investigators are continuing to examine evidence to determine if additional people are implicated.
It remains unclear if the suspects are part of a larger phenomenon dubbed “burglary tourism,” in which foreign nationals, often from South America, travel to the United States specifically to commit burglary. Recent similar arrests include Chilean nationals in Pacific Palisades and East Hollywood earlier this year, and seven Colombians apprehended in Burbank in May 2025.
The Irvine Police Department initiated the investigation several weeks ago, deploying extensive surveillance and evidence-gathering techniques to identify and locate the suspects. The ongoing inquiry seeks to uncover any further criminal activity linked to the group.
