Khalifa University of Science and Technology has announced the selection of 63 teams from 26 countries for the Khalifa University–UNESCO Global Water Hackathon 2026. The event aims to promote innovative approaches to addressing critical water challenges worldwide ahead of the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi.

Among the shortlisted teams, 45 come from outside the United Arab Emirates, accounting for approximately 71 percent of the total. These teams represent a diverse range of countries and bring a variety of perspectives and expertise to the competition.

The participating projects focus on six key water innovation themes, which are aligned with global priorities such as water security, improving resource efficiency, and enhancing climate resilience. By fostering collaboration among emerging innovators, the hackathon seeks to generate practical solutions that can help mitigate water-related issues exacerbated by climate change and growing demand.

The initiative underscores Khalifa University’s commitment to advancing scientific research and technological development in the water sector, while also supporting the international community’s efforts to achieve sustainable water management goals. The upcoming United Nations Water Conference in Abu Dhabi is expected to provide a platform for further discussion on these critical topics.
