Seven additional deaths with measles-like symptoms were reported in the 24 hours leading up to Thursday morning, raising the total number of measles-related fatalities in the country to 1,214 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Of these deaths, 104 have been laboratory-confirmed as measles, while 1,110 are classified as suspected cases.

In the same reporting period, 1,110 new suspected measles infections and 25 confirmed cases were recorded, bringing the cumulative suspected cases since mid-March to 218,870 and confirmed infections to 23,273. Over this period, hospitals admitted 194,633 children nationwide, with 186,798 recovering.

The continued spread of measles has prompted the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to vaccinate approximately 20 million children since April as part of efforts to control the outbreak. Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that affects individuals of all ages but remains a significant cause of childhood mortality worldwide.

Additionally, the DGHS reported three more deaths from dengue fever in the past 24 hours, increasing the year-to-date total fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease to 371. The government continues to monitor and respond to both outbreaks amid ongoing public health challenges.
