Kuwaiti security forces apprehended a Syrian expatriate in Salmiya on August 29 after discovering $7,000 in counterfeit US currency in his possession. The individual, reportedly in his twenties, was stopped by Salmiya Police Station officers in the Hawally Governorate for suspicious behavior at a traffic light.

During the routine vehicle stop, officers noticed the suspect appearing nervous and requested identification. Following his identification as a Syrian national, authorities conducted a search of the vehicle. Under the driver's seat, they found an envelope containing US dollar bills, which upon inspection were determined to be expertly forged.

The suspect acknowledged ownership of the money, but admitted it was counterfeit when confronted by investigators. He was subsequently referred to the Counterfeiting and Forgery Crimes Department for further questioning. Authorities are also conducting a search of his residence as part of ongoing efforts to trace the origin of the forged currency.

Security sources indicated that the investigation remains active, with officials pursuing additional leads to identify any networks involved in distributing the counterfeit bills. Legal procedures are underway to process the suspect and the seized counterfeit currency.
