Since the introduction of passenger services on the United Arab Emirates’ national railway network, more than 70,000 tickets have been sold, indicating a growing acceptance of rail travel across the country. Passengers are now booking their trips an average of 12 days in advance, suggesting that rail is becoming a preferred mode of transportation for various purposes.
Etihad Rail, the operator of the network, reported that ridership has moved beyond initial curiosity, with travelers increasingly incorporating train journeys into their regular planning. Azza Al Suwaidi, chief operating officer of Etihad Rail, noted that advance bookings reflect the railway’s emerging role as a natural travel choice for residents and visitors alike.
The demand for train services spans a diverse range of passengers, including families, business professionals, school groups, tourists, and People of Determination, underscoring the railway’s versatility. Adhraa Almansoori, executive director of commercial at Etihad Rail Mobility, emphasized the broad appeal of the network for different types of travel needs. She highlighted that customers are using the service for family outings, business trips, educational excursions, leisure travel, and exploration of new destinations throughout the UAE.
The rail service aims to enhance connectivity across the Emirates and provide a sustainable transportation alternative. Its rising popularity suggests that it is becoming an integral component of the country’s transport infrastructure, supporting economic and social mobility as it expands.
