Motorists in the Klang Valley are expected to face increased traffic congestion over the weekend as multiple major events coincide, including the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit (SIC), the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM), and various concerts and sports activities.

Authorities are urging road users to allocate extra travel time due to anticipated heavy traffic from today through October 4. The Selangor police have implemented stringent security measures at the F1 event, including mandatory ticket verification, vehicle pass checks, and access sticker inspections at five key locations around SIC to manage the flow of visitors. These checkpoints include the Chicken Hut area near KLIA Toll Plaza, routes from KLIA Terminal 1 toward the mosque roundabout, the vicinity before the mosque roundabout, the road from Kompleks Warisan Rohaniah, and the junction at the police quarters.

Approximately 356 police officers will be deployed to oversee traffic control, law enforcement, and to facilitate VIP movements during the race period. Traffic management operations are scheduled daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. until the event concludes. Police have also emphasized that only vehicles with official parking access will be allowed entry into SIC grounds, which has roughly 4,000 designated parking bays for the event. Motorcycles are restricted to authorized personnel with valid passes. Illegal parking along roadsides may result in summonses or towing to avoid traffic obstructions.

Parallel events in Kuala Lumpur, such as football matches, concerts, and a stage of the Le Tour de Langkawi cycling race, are expected to add to the overall traffic load. The Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department has announced it will deploy full manpower to manage vehicle flow across these events and to accommodate VIP arrivals from October 3 to 4.

In addition to ground traffic measures, visitors to SIC have been strongly advised to use public transportation to mitigate congestion near KL International Airport (KLIA). KLIA authorities warned that parking spaces at Terminal 1 and the long-term car park are likely to reach full capacity early each day, with total race attendance projected to surpass 200,000 over the three-day weekend. Patrons are discouraged from driving to KLIA for parking purposes and are encouraged to use Express Rail Link services such as KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit, as well as e-hailing options.

To facilitate last-mile connectivity, free shuttle buses will operate between KLIA Terminal 2, the KLIA Long Term Car Park, Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA, and SIC throughout the event. Police will also enforce traffic diversions daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on major routes leading to the circuit, and drivers are urged to adhere to alternate routes as directed.

Air travelers passing through KLIA during the race weekend are advised to plan for additional travel time due to the expected increase in traffic congestion. Officials encourage all road users and visitors to stay updated through official advisories and to cooperate with law enforcement to ensure smooth travel during this busy period.
