Darren Sher, a London-based watch enthusiast diagnosed with dyslexia, has developed a timepiece designed to address the difficulties faced by individuals with similar challenges in reading traditional watch dials. Motivated by his own struggles with telling time as a child and later recognizing the same issue in his son, Harrison, Sher introduced the Sher Kids Watch in April 2025 through the Sher Watch Company, a brand he established earlier that year.

Sher’s experience with dyslexia made reading analog timepieces difficult until his late teens. Observing Harrison’s comparable struggles at age 10, Sher sought to create a watch that simplifies time reading while maintaining an appealing design. The Sher Kids Watch features a 32-millimeter round dial segmented into 12 numbered "pie-like" sections, each slightly offset to aid in differentiating the hour indicated by the hour hand. Minute markings from one to 59 encircle the dial’s edge and are tracked by a larger minute hand. The watch’s steel case is powered by a Miyota 2035 quartz movement and is available in three dial color variations—gray, pink, or royal blue—with matching or white straps.

The timepiece is priced at £95 (approximately $130 in the United States) and can be purchased directly through the company’s website as well as at the Time+Tide London Watch Discovery Studio. The boutique has carried Sher’s children’s watch as its exclusive offering for younger wearers since July 2025. Andrew McUtchen, founder of Time+Tide, praised the design for addressing a longstanding issue with clarity and lauded its accessible price point.

Based in Borehamwood, about 12 miles northwest of central London, Sher Watch operates as an independent business run out of Sher’s home. While Sher has not disclosed specific sales figures, the brand has expanded its product line to include an adult model: a 41-millimeter automatic steel dive watch with a textured blue fumé dial and Miyota 9039 movement. This limited edition, capped at 300 pieces, launched in December 2025 through a collaboration with “The Watch Podcast,” which Sher co-hosts.

Sher is also co-founder of Just Chrono, a website that aggregates watch-related content and sales, and maintains an active social media presence showcasing his personal collection. Ongoing development plans include another adult watch and potential new versions of the Kids Watch, responding to customer interest in larger models suitable for adults. Additionally, Sher recently shared a prototype of a school wall clock on social media, signaling broader ambitions for the brand.

In interviews, Sher emphasized the influence of his children on his work and described learning the technical aspects of watch assembly through online resources during the COVID-19 pandemic. He purchased watchmaking tools and practiced restoration to ensure high standards of quality control in his products. “I want to ensure that when I send a product to a customer, it’s been assembled correctly and passes my checks before it goes out,” Sher said, crediting his self-taught skills with the foundation of his company’s craftsmanship.
