Playing in an unfamiliar false-nine role, Samba scored twice in a 5-0 victory over Championship opposition, demonstrating composure beyond his years.
The match, held on Thursday evening, was particularly significant for Samba as his family was present to support him. His older brother Tyrone and their mother Theresa celebrated his goals from the stands, wearing shirts emblazoned with his name and number. Tyrone, who has progressed through Manchester City’s youth system alongside Floyd, is also on the cusp of his own first-team breakthrough. Meanwhile, the youngest sibling, 12-year-old Emerson, is developing through the academy ranks as well.
The Samba brothers have a strong football lineage, with their father, Christopher Samba, having enjoyed a successful professional career. Floyd acknowledged the role his family has played in shaping his career, emphasizing the support system the brothers share. “To have three brothers at City…I think my dad’s done a good job in helping all of us, as a player, as a person and the character and mentality,” Floyd said. He added that the brothers often train and compete together, noting Emerson’s physical presence and defensive style despite his youth.

Samba’s emergence at Manchester City has been a product of steady development within the club’s academy. A standout moment came last season when he scored from a free kick in the FA Youth Cup final against Manchester United. The appointment of Enzo Maresca as the youth team coach appears to have accelerated his progress, with Samba embracing the opportunity to prove himself during pre-season and throughout the current campaign.
