Major General Syed Tareq Hussain concluded his tenure as Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Kuwait after serving since July 2024, leaving behind a legacy of strengthened bilateral relations and active engagement with both the Kuwaiti community and the Bangladeshi diaspora.

Ambassador Hussain’s appointment followed a distinguished military career that began in 1989 with the Bangladesh Army. Over more than three decades, he held senior command positions, including leadership of an infantry division, and contributed to United Nations peacekeeping operations in Angola and Ivory Coast. This extensive experience informed his approach to diplomacy in Kuwait, where he prioritized expanding cooperation across trade, investment, and cultural exchanges.

A noteworthy milestone under his ambassadorship was the inaugural Foreign Office Consultations between Bangladesh and Kuwait, held in Dhaka in October 2025. The discussions underscored both countries’ commitment to deepening strategic ties amid evolving regional dynamics.

Ambassador Hussain’s dedication extended beyond official duties, highlighted by his personal response following the June 2026 attack on Kuwait International Airport. He visited the Central Blood Bank to donate blood and mobilized the Bangladeshi community in Kuwait to contribute to relief efforts, resulting in approximately 175 blood donations. This initiative reflected a strong sense of solidarity and humanitarian commitment during a challenging period for Kuwait.

In addition, Bangladesh’s delivery of 240 tonnes of essential food supplies to Kuwait amid regional tensions demonstrated tangible support under Ambassador Hussain’s guidance, reinforcing the longstanding friendship between the two countries.

Throughout his mission, Ambassador Hussain maintained an active presence in Kuwaiti social and diplomatic circles, regularly attending community gatherings and diwaniyas. His approachable demeanor, humor, and respect for diverse communities earned him widespread admiration and personal friendships that are expected to endure beyond his diplomatic role.

As Ambassador Hussain prepares to move on to his next assignment alongside his wife, Bilkis Begum Simi, and their two daughters, Kuwaiti officials and colleagues expressed appreciation for his contributions. His tenure is seen as a period of positive advancement in Bangladesh-Kuwait relations, with hopes that the partnership will continue to grow in the years ahead.
