Plymouth has introduced its first luxury boutique hotel with the opening of The Drew Hotel, a restored historic property situated between the city’s downtown area and its historic harbor. The three-story building, originally constructed in the 1800s as a captain’s home and later used as a rest home, has been revitalized into a 25-room hotel that merges period architectural features with contemporary design and upscale amenities.

The project, led by Plymouth-based developer Rick Vayo, began with the acquisition of the captain’s home and an adjacent property two years ago. The hotel offers guests a choice between two distinct room styles: one features floral walls and marine-themed artwork that pays tribute to Plymouth’s maritime heritage, while the other showcases turquoise paneling, wood details, and leather-framed beds. Several rooms include private balconies, and the top-floor Lark Suite features a spacious deck overlooking the water, a sitting area with a pullout sofa, and a fully equipped kitchenette.

Amenities at The Drew Hotel include daily complimentary tea and coffee service as well as breakfast provided by the Plimoth General Store & Eatery, another property owned by Vayo. Visitors can also unwind in the hotel’s outdoor courtyard, furnished with lounge seating and a firepit, or in a cozy underground lounge centered around a black-tiled wood-burning fireplace.

Vayo’s plans extend beyond the current hotel footprint. He recently acquired three additional rundown rental properties nearby, which he intends to convert into 17 more luxury guestrooms along with a private event space and an outdoor area designed for gatherings. This expansion is anticipated to open in the spring.

Over the past decade, Vayo has been instrumental in the revitalization of several historic and neglected buildings across Plymouth, transforming them into residential and commercial spaces, including the Plimoth General Store, Beartide Oyster Company, Vitamin Sea Brewery, and Bamp’s Toy Vault.

Room rates at The Drew Hotel begin at $349 per night, based on double occupancy. Further information is available on the hotel’s website.
