PUTRAJAYA — Approximately 1,500 students took part in a large-scale human graphics performance during Malaysia’s National Day celebrations, forming dynamic, colorful displays featuring the Jalur Gemilang flag before a crowd of over 100,000 spectators on Tuesday.

The performance combined traditional Malaysian music with contemporary hits popular among younger audiences, eliciting enthusiastic responses from the public. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim praised the students during a brief interaction with attendees, expressing gratitude for their contribution to the event.

According to Ahmad Hafiz Awaludin, coordinator of the human graphics presentation, the students were driven by the annual challenge to innovate and showcase their creativity in honor of the nation’s independence. This year’s iteration notably emphasized traditional music and elements reflecting Malaysia’s cultural heritage, he noted.

Awaludin, a Selangor Education Department official, highlighted collaboration with the National Culture and Arts Department as a key factor in enhancing the performance. The partnership allowed segments of the choreography to extend from the spectator stands down to ground level, adding depth and complexity to the visual presentation.

Costume design was managed internally by a 23-member coaching team from the Selangor Education Department, which includes specialists in symmetry, creative movement, and training management. The team took responsibility for designing the performers’ attire entirely in-house, creating outfits that complemented the overall artistic vision.

The National Day event demonstrated a blend of Malaysia’s rich cultural traditions with modern expression, underscoring the involvement of youth and institutional support in marking the nation’s 69th year of independence.
