KUALA LUMPUR — A collaborative charity initiative brought together 64 chefs from diverse Malaysian communities to prepare and distribute meals to vulnerable groups in the capital city. The "Cooking With Heart, Sharing With Love" campaign was held from September 17 to 19 at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, coinciding with the eighth Malaysia China Trade Expo (MCTE 2026).

Organized jointly by the Malaysia Selangor and Federal Territory Ku Su Shin Choong Hung Restaurant Association (KuSu), the Professional Culinaire Association (PCA), and the Malaysian Indian Chef Association (Mica), the effort resulted in the preparation and distribution of 1,000 packed meals. These meals were delivered to four welfare homes and care centers: Tong Sim Senior Citizen Care Centre, Canaan Home, Bodhi Homecare, and Wen Hua Welfare Association.

KuSu president Chong Kam Fai described the initiative as a platform for chefs from various ethnic backgrounds to unite through their culinary skills while giving back to the community. Emphasizing the cultural fusion represented in the menu, Chong noted that the dishes included fried chicken, pakora, boiled eggs, sweet potato fritters, potatoes, and carrots — reflecting Malay, Chinese, and Indian influences. “This is what Malaysia is about – bringing together our cultures,” he said.

Chong also acknowledged that the number of meals prepared was insufficient to meet the demand, with many individuals expressing interest in receiving the food. He expressed hope that the initiative, which was described as a first collaborative effort among the participating associations, would expand in future iterations to serve more people in need. He extended gratitude to the event’s organizers and sponsors for funding the project.

Tan Gim Tuan, KuSu’s legal adviser, highlighted the broader significance of the event in fostering national unity. He said the collaboration demonstrated how Malaysians could come together regardless of religion, race, or background to contribute positively to the country, especially as the event took place in conjunction with Malaysia Day. “This is a good step forward to make the nation better and stronger for everyone,” Tan said.

The event was also attended by MCTE 2026 executive president Daisy Li, PCA president Mohd Kamaruddin Adnin, Mica president P. Ramaesvaran, and Malaysia Chinese Chamber of Commerce chairman Datuk Tony Looi Chee Hong.
