A police operation targeting serious crimes across the New South Wales transport network led to a tense siege in Sydney’s west on Wednesday. Officers from the NSW Police Transport Command were attempting to arrest a 37-year-old man in Granville in connection with an alleged assault that involved headbutting a 15-year-old boy at a Mt Druitt bus station last month.

According to police, the situation escalated when the man indicated he had a bomb and threatened to detonate it, putting both himself and officers at risk. After a standoff, the police successfully arrested the individual, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

This arrest was part of a broader enforcement effort known as Operation Waratah 6, which has been underway for the past month. The operation focuses on reducing violent and sexual offences committed against passengers and staff across multiple modes of public transport, including trains, buses, the Sydney Metro, and ferries.

In addition to the 37-year-old man, two other individuals were also taken into custody during the operation on Wednesday. Among them was an 18-year-old man arrested at Bidwill, suspected of involvement in an alleged assault at the Mt Druitt area.

Police have emphasized their commitment to maintaining safety on public transport and addressing offences that affect commuters and employees alike. Investigations related to these recent arrests are continuing as authorities work to further deter violence within the transport network.
