AAGE International, a leading distributor of industrial batteries in Qatar, is planning to expand its product portfolio with lithium-ion batteries by 2027 as the country introduces new standards aimed at extending battery design life. The company currently holds an estimated 60% share of Qatar’s industrial battery market, according to managing director Selvakumaran Selvaraj.

The new regulations, implemented under Qatar’s National Vision 2030 framework, require industrial batteries to have a minimum design life of 10 years. This shift is reshaping the local backup power market, prompting distributors like AAGE International to adapt their offerings. The company supplies batteries primarily under its Axess Power brand, which is currently stocked in quantities exceeding 25,000 units across various applications, including uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, fire alarms, elevators, data centers, solar systems, CCTV networks, and building automation systems.

By maintaining a large local inventory, Selvaraj highlighted the company’s ability to meet immediate customer demands without delays associated with overseas shipping. AAGE International reportedly moves about 600 batteries daily in Qatar, with shipments arriving twice monthly via containers. The company’s products have received approvals from several key government and infrastructure entities, including Ashghal projects, the Ministry of Interior, Qatar Civil Defence, Hamad International Airport, and Hamad Medical Corporation.

Manufactured in Europe under an Italian brand, the batteries adhere to European ISO standards and undergo multi-stage quality inspections. They come with a two-year warranty and meet the 10-year design life requirement established by Qatar’s infrastructure regulations, setting them apart from competitors.

Beyond Qatar, AAGE International has expanded its market presence to neighboring Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman through participation in industry exhibitions including Project Qatar. The company also emphasizes responsible battery disposal practices for customers in Bahrain by directing them to licensed discard agencies.

To optimize inventory and supply chain management, AAGE International employs an AI-integrated enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, enabling precise stock movement tracking and six-month product planning. This technological integration aims to support smooth operations as the company prepares to introduce lithium-ion solutions tailored to evolving market needs in Qatar and the broader Gulf region.
