Aaron Glenn, head coach of the New York Jets, has been fined $250,000 by the NFL for his conduct toward game officials, league sources confirmed. Glenn was one of three head coaches penalized in connection with their interactions with referees. The fine is currently on hold and may be rescinded if Glenn demonstrates good behavior moving forward.
The Jets were flagged for five penalties totaling 35 yards during their recent loss to the New England Patriots. One of the more notable calls involved a controversial offensive pass interference penalty on receiver Tim Patrick, which negated a touchdown by Omar Cooper Jr. in the opening drive. The NFL has indicated that it aims to emphasize respect for officials among coaching staff throughout the league.
Glenn declined to address the fine directly but spoke about his relationship with officials during a Friday press conference. “I don’t think that’s ever been a problem at all,” he said. “Listen, I understand how the league works and I am fully behind how the league operates and I don’t think any coach within this league has any issues with the refs. We know it’s a tough game and refs make those split-second calls at that time. It’s tough. So we support the refs, we support what the league’s doing.” He added that he keeps matters involving officials and the NFL between the involved parties.
Injury updates ahead of the Jets’ upcoming game indicate several key players remain questionable or out. Running back Breece Hall, sidelined for the past three games with a quadriceps injury, was limited in practice for a second consecutive day and is listed as questionable. Glenn said the team will assess Hall’s status up to game day. Starting left guard Dylan Parham, also limited in practice due to a knee injury, is similarly considered questionable. Running back and kick returner Kene Nwangwu, nursing a knee issue, is also doubtful to play.
Linebacker Kiko Mauigoa (quad), offensive lineman Max Mitchell (concussion), and edge rusher Joseph Ossai (ankle) have all been ruled out for the upcoming matchup.
Glenn also addressed speculation regarding defensive back Jarvis Brownlee Jr., clarifying that Brownlee was not benched late in the Patriots game. Instead, he explained that Brownlee and rookie cornerback D’Angelo Ponds rotate in specific defensive packages as part of the team’s strategy to cover slot receivers. Both players are expected to see playing time moving forward.
