Abdulaziz al Musallami, a 27-year-old fashion designer, has forged an unconventional path to his career in fashion, overcoming early academic struggles and financial challenges. Initially enrolled in a business program after high school, al Musallami found himself disengaged and unable to connect with his studies, repeating courses multiple times without success. Reflecting on this period, he described feeling lost and disconnected, likening his experience to "walking in a desert" without understanding his direction.

In 2021, al Musallami made the decision to leave his business studies and pursue his passion for fashion by enrolling in a program at the Scientific College of Design. Supporting himself through a part-time job while funding his education independently, he faced significant difficulties balancing work and study. He recounted days when he would leave early in the morning, attend college, head to work, and then complete assignments late into the night, sometimes going days without seeing his mother.

His perseverance paid off during an exhibition featuring handmade leather bags, where al Musallami sold all 25 bags he produced over five days. This early success affirmed public appreciation for his craftsmanship. Today, his work spans several disciplines, with a particular focus on handmade leather goods such as unisex bags, pouches, custom-sized pieces, and laptop bags. Although his initial aim was to design men's bags, he observed that women became his main customer base.

In addition to leatherwork, al Musallami designs abayas and dresses and offers bespoke tailoring services for both men and women. His creative philosophy centers on producing unique, one-of-a-kind pieces, driven by a dislike for seeing people wearing identical clothing. He emphasizes meticulous attention to detail, especially in abaya construction, where he notes inconsistencies in market tailoring such as uneven flares. He works closely with tailors to ensure precision and fabric quality, also experimenting with structural elements like layered designs that blend form and movement.

Looking ahead, al Musallami aspires to open a boutique dedicated to men’s fashion, identifying a market gap for men’s style and grooming services. He envisions a space offering a comprehensive styling experience. Simultaneously, he maintains an interest in women’s fashion, valuing the creative freedom it offers, and aims to design women’s dresses, abayas, and workwear.

Al Musallami markets his creations primarily through social media, operating two Instagram pages: @by_azooz for abayas and tailoring, and @by_azooz_leather for leather products. He takes custom orders and arranges fittings directly with clients, conducting measurements personally for men and ensuring a female family member is present during fittings for women.
