Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has announced plans to construct a network of seven bridges connecting Ramhan and Jubail Islands to the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Highway (E12). The infrastructure project, scheduled for completion and opening in the second quarter of 2027, aims to enhance transportation links and support regional development.
Spanning more than 166,000 square meters, the development carries an estimated cost of 872 million dirhams. In addition to the bridges, the project includes the construction of three tunnels, as well as a comprehensive network of ramps, roads, and utility corridors. These elements are designed to increase road capacity and improve traffic flow in the surrounding areas.
Sustainability considerations are integral to the project’s design. The DMT has committed to implementing energy-efficient LED lighting systems to reduce power consumption and minimize light pollution. Furthermore, the department expects to recycle approximately 90 percent of construction waste generated during the build, amounting to more than 2,200 tonnes.
Eisa Mubarak Almazrouei, Director General of Infrastructure Development at DMT, emphasized the role of the project in advancing Abu Dhabi’s wider transportation strategy. He highlighted that the bridge network will not only facilitate access to Ramhan and Jubail Islands but will also unlock opportunities for new developments and economic activities. Almazrouei described the initiative as part of DMT’s strategic efforts to create integrated and livable communities that enhance residents’ quality of life amid the emirate’s rapid expansion.
This announcement fits within a broader infrastructure push by the DMT throughout the year. In March 2026, the department inaugurated two marine bridges linking Al Reem Island to the E12 highway, a project valued at 450 million dirhams. Earlier initiatives also include extensive road improvements over a 13-kilometre section in Musaffah, featuring two new bridges that connect the industrial zone to Mohammed bin Zayed City.
The new bridge network connecting Ramhan and Jubail Islands is expected to bolster connectivity and foster economic growth in the Abu Dhabi region, forming a critical component of the emirate’s transportation and urban development plans.
