AC Milan extended their unbeaten start to the Serie A season with a 1-1 draw against Sassuolo on Sunday at the Mapei Stadium. The result leaves Milan in fifth place with three wins and three draws after six matches.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 63rd minute when Adrien Rabiot converted a pinpoint pass from substitute Luka Modrić, firing a powerful shot past Sassuolo goalkeeper Arijanet Muric. However, Sassuolo responded quickly, equalizing just five minutes later through Cas Odenthal, who capitalized on a corner to level the match.
The game featured early injury setbacks for both sides. Milan defender Matteo Gabbia was forced off early, followed soon after by Sassuolo’s Fedde Leysen, both defenders unable to continue due to injuries. Despite these disruptions, both teams created chances in an evenly contested first half. Sassuolo’s Darryl Bakola and Domenico Berardi tested Milan’s defense, while Milan’s Gonçalo Ramos had two attempts saved by Muric before the break. Muric also denied Diego Moreira and Strahinja Pavlovic in stoppage time of the first half to keep the match level.
After halftime, Sassuolo pressed forward, with Vasilije Adzic’s close-range shot saved by Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan. Following Rabiot’s opener, Sassuolo intensified their attack, with Kieron Bowie and Kristian Thorstvedt challenging Maignan’s goal in quick succession. Odenthal’s equalizer injected momentum into the hosts’ play, and Samuel Chukwueze later nearly put Sassuolo ahead but was again thwarted by Muric.
The remainder of the match lacked clear-cut chances, as both sides settled for a point. Milan’s unbeaten run continues, while Sassuolo also moves on with a hard-fought draw in the early stages of the Serie A campaign.
