At least 22 people were killed in a collision between a bus and a truck on Kenya’s main highway on Sunday, authorities confirmed. The crash occurred on the roadway connecting Nairobi, the country’s capital, to the coastal city of Mombasa.

The accident took place in the morning as passengers were traveling back to Mombasa. According to Paul Kiseinya, the medical superintendent at Mito Andei hospital, where most of the injured were taken, 24 others sustained injuries and were receiving treatment.

This tragedy marks the latest in a series of fatal incidents on the same highway. Just three weeks prior, a separate accident in the area resulted in 17 deaths, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety along this critical transport route. Kenyan officials have yet to release detailed information regarding the cause of Sunday’s crash. Investigations are likely underway to determine factors contributing to the accident.
