Riccardo Cazzato will contest charges of reckless wounding related to a stabbing incident that occurred in a Bondi apartment building in July. The 32-year-old is set to face a hearing at the Downing Centre, anticipated to last three days, following an alleged attack that left a man injured and requiring hospital treatment.

The incident took place around 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, in the stairwell of an apartment block on Ramsgate Avenue. The alleged victim was reportedly slashed across the face and hand before being transported to St Vincent’s Hospital for medical care. Cazzato has previously pleaded not guilty to the reckless wounding charge, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.

At a court mention on September 9 at Waverley Local Court, a hearing date was set for September 16. The prosecution indicated that 13 witnesses are expected to give testimony during the proceedings. However, presiding Judge Kirk Dailly expressed concerns about whether the hearing could be completed within the scheduled three-day period, noting that allocating roughly half an hour per witness would realistically allow for only about five testimonies each day. He also questioned the extent of overlap among the witnesses’ statements, suggesting the evidence might be largely corroborative.

Cazzato was not present at the court mention and has been excused from attending the hearing scheduled for September 16. The case will proceed before the court as the legal process continues.
