Antony Catalano, a prominent media owner facing multiple criminal charges, is reportedly seeking reconciliation with his wife while preparing to resume his professional activities. Catalano is scheduled to appear in court on July 1 to face allegations including threats to kill, false imprisonment, and assault relating to an incident involving his wife, Stefanie Catalano. The couple shares nine children, four of whom are reportedly residing with Stefanie in Byron Bay.
Earlier this month, Catalano’s bail conditions were varied, permitting him to spend time with his younger children in Byron Bay. Sources close to the situation suggest that Catalano is attempting to maintain a façade of normalcy despite the serious nature of the charges. Recent photographs surfaced showing Catalano with his older sons, Luca and Jordy, taken in Melbourne last month. Jordy Catalano, 35, has assumed control over some of his father’s business interests, including the luxury resort Raes at Wategoes and a stake in the retail portion of The Bonobo apartment hotel in Byron Bay.
Reports indicate Catalano intends to return to Australian Community Media, the company behind several regional newspapers such as The Canberra Times, Newcastle Herald, and Bendigo Advertiser, following a six-month leave. He stepped back from his business roles in March after initially appearing in court on charges related to an alleged assault at his $30 million St Kilda penthouse.
The legal proceedings stem from an incident on March 13, during which Catalano allegedly committed several offenses. The charges include making threats to kill, detaining Stefanie Catalano against her will, recklessly causing injury, and offenses involving choking, strangulation, or suffocation. Additional allegations include unlawful assault with a clothing iron and two counts of assaulting a female. Video footage from the time reportedly shows Stefanie being dragged by her hair outside their apartment.
Attempts to contact Antony Catalano for comment on his upcoming court appearance and plea have been unsuccessful. It remains unclear whether Stefanie Catalano will be required to testify at the proceedings. The case continues to unfold as the court date approaches.
