ACT Media is set to stage William Shakespeare’s comedy "As You Like It" at the Yarmouk Cultural Center in Kuwait on November 18 and 19, 2026, with performances beginning at 6:30 p.m. Admission to the production is free. The event is part of the Yarmouk Cultural Center Season, organized in cooperation with the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL).
The play, adapted and directed by Kuwaiti theater director Hamad Al Jenaie, follows the themes of love, mistaken identity, exile, friendship, transformation, and self-discovery set against the backdrop of the Forest of Arden. Al Jenaie, who has previously directed Shakespearean works such as "Hamlet," "Macbeth," "The Tempest," and "A Midsummer Night’s Dream," said he selected "As You Like It" for its blend of humor and romance as well as its deeper exploration of human identity and change.
“Beneath its humor and romance lies a deeply human story about discovering who we are, embracing change, and finding our place in the world,” Al Jenaie explained in discussing his motivation for directing the play.
The production features a diverse cast of Kuwaiti actors, including Abdulrahman Sulaiman, Amina Rianna, Asser Tamer, Daiya Abdullah, Daniel Tesdale, Essa Haitham, Fahad Al Shimmari, Fahad Awadh, and Farah Barry, among others. The full ensemble will bring to life Shakespeare’s characters as they navigate the transformative possibilities found in the Forest of Arden, a setting that challenges social expectations and encourages personal revelation.
This staging continues ACT Media’s commitment to bringing classical theater to Kuwaiti audiences, highlighting the enduring relevance of Shakespeare’s work through contemporary interpretation and local talent.
