Liberation War Affairs State Minister and Dhaka-6 Member of Parliament Ishraque Hossain announced plans to take action against individuals misusing the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) name in connection with wrongdoing. His comments came during a reception on Sunday at Ray Saheb Bazar in Dhaka, held to honor students who achieved top scores in the 2026 Secondary School Certificate examinations. The event was organized by the Ray Saheb Bazar Panchayat Committee.

Ishraque expressed concern over certain individuals who, he said, are exploiting the BNP’s identity to diverge from the party’s established political principles and ideology. “Those involved in such activities must be identified and dealt with accordingly,” he stated, emphasizing the need for vigilance within party ranks.

The minister cited a recent example in which Prime Minister Tarique Rahman demonstrated a “zero tolerance” approach by initiating a rapid investigation following an incident involving misconduct under the party’s name. As a result, a BNP lawmaker was instructed to resign, a directive the MP complied with promptly. Ishraque used this case to underscore the party leadership’s commitment to maintaining discipline and integrity.

He called on BNP leaders and activists to remain alert and proactive in detecting and addressing any misconduct linked to the party’s identity in Dhaka-6 and beyond. Speaking about the local political environment, Ishraque expressed confidence in the dedication and honesty of BNP members in his constituency, asserting that they uphold the party’s values through sincere political engagement.

The remarks highlight ongoing internal efforts by BNP leadership to curtail misuse of the party’s name and reinforce organizational discipline amid concerns about reputational damage.
