Emma Rigby, the actress portraying Tracie Andrews in the upcoming drama "Suspect: The Road Rage Killer," has expressed a desire to meet the convicted murderer and inquire about the true circumstances surrounding the killing of her fiancé, Lee Harvey. Rigby, known for her role as Hannah Ashworth in the television series "Hollyoaks," stated that Andrews has never fully disclosed her version of events on camera, and she would be interested to hear what story Andrews might now tell.
At the time of Harvey’s death in 1996, Rigby was just seven years old and unfamiliar with the case. In preparation for her role, she reviewed documentaries and read "Pure Evil," a book written by Lee Harvey’s mother, Maureen. As a dedicated true crime enthusiast, Rigby found Andrews’ psychology "fascinating," though she struggled to feel sympathy for her. She described the moments captured in transcripts of Andrews’ statements, particularly noting the unsettling tone and lack of remorse displayed by Andrews as "chilling" and "shockingly unbelievable."
The 90-minute drama focuses on the events following the murder, highlighting Andrews' desire for fame as a model, which contributed to her presence at a televised press conference that ultimately backfired. In the aftermath of the killing, Andrews, then 27, was found covered in blood beside the body of 25-year-old Lee Harvey on a secluded country lane near their home in Alvechurch, Worcestershire. Andrews initially claimed that Harvey had been the victim of a road rage attack by a driver with "starey eyes." However, inconsistencies in her statements during the press conference triggered suspicion.
Further investigation revealed that Andrews had fatally stabbed Harvey with a knife she had concealed in her car’s boot. She was subsequently convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment, serving the minimum term of 14 years before being released in 2011. Following her release, Andrews reportedly changed her name to Jenna Stephens and now resides in a southern coastal town. In 2017, she married Phil Goldsworthy, a bouncer and father of two.
The new drama seeks to examine both the crime and Andrews’ motivations, drawing from documented interviews and available transcripts to present a detailed account of the case. Rigby’s portrayal aims to shed light on the complexities behind a high-profile crime that captivated the public nearly three decades ago.
