Tony Award-winning actress Laura Benanti, recognized for her extensive work on Broadway as well as roles in film and television, is currently touring with her one-woman comedy show, “Laura Benanti: Nobody Cares.” The show, which features a blend of stand-up comedy and original songs, will be presented over four sold-out performances at the Calderwood Pavilion from October 22 to 25. It previously received acclaim during runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, London, and off-Broadway.

Benanti, a New York City native, described her new comedic venture as “sharp-elbowed standup with funny, autobiographical stories” and noted that the material, which includes adult language and themes, is intended for audiences aged 15 and older. The show explores themes surrounding womanhood and societal expectations, with Benanti referring to herself as “a recovering ingénue” aiming to challenge myths about young women.

“I love making people laugh, and live theater remains my favorite thing,” she said in a recent interview. The show includes original songs co-written with musical collaborator Todd Almond, blending humor and music to engage audiences in candid conversations on taboo subjects.

Benanti’s transition into stand-up comedy developed naturally through her experiences hosting events, where she wrote monologues and sketches, discovering a newfound passion for comedy alongside her established career in musical theater. While she continues to perform Broadway concerts nationwide, she has recently embraced her identity as a comedian.

In addition to her artistic endeavors, Benanti balances her career with family life. She lives with her husband, Patrick Brown, an education technology consultant, their two daughters, Ella, 9, and Louisa, 4, and their rescue dog, Peetie-Pie. She shared insights on travel preferences, memorable vacations, and advice for travelers, reflecting her candid and relatable approach both on and offstage.
