Actress Patsy Kensit has credited Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) with helping her achieve sobriety after she recognized that her alcohol consumption had become unmanageable. The 58-year-old Emmerdale star shared that she attended her first AA meeting following a recommendation from Pete Townshend, the guitarist of The Who, who is also a recovering alcoholic.

Kensit recounted that Townshend, now 81, advised her simply to “go and listen” to the meetings. Reflecting on her early experiences with AA, Kensit described the initial session as positive and noted that she encountered many familiar faces, which reinforced her connection to the support system. The actress emphasized the impact of hearing others’ stories, saying it helped her understand that alcohol was harmful to her personally, describing it as “poison” and suggesting she might be “allergic” to it.

The star, who was previously married to Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, highlighted that her lifestyle in the 1990s, particularly around the time she was having a child, necessitated a significant change. She acknowledged that her drinking habits, which included late nights, contributed to her decision to seek help.

Kensit is a mother of two and has spoken openly about how listening to others in AA played a pivotal role in her recovery journey. Her account underscores the importance she places on the community and shared experiences fostered in the group meetings.
