British boxer Adam Azim is setting his sights on a unification bout with fellow countryman Dalton Smith as he approaches a potential world title opportunity. Azim, 24, from Slough, commented on Smith’s recent victory over Alberto Puello, which allowed Smith to retain his WBC super-lightweight championship. Despite Smith’s win, Azim was not impressed by the performance but acknowledged that the result keeps alive the prospect of a high-profile fight between the two fighters.
Azim is scheduled to compete against Gabriel Gollaz on December 4 in an IBF super-lightweight title eliminator. Speaking on the SunBoxing’s Corner Talk podcast, he outlined his plans, stating that he intends to secure a world championship before pursuing a unification fight with Smith. “I think it makes sense for me to win a world title, then fight Dalton,” Azim said, highlighting that Smith already holds a world title belt. “He has a world title belt already — I need to get one and then we can make a unification.”
A victory over Gollaz would put Azim in line for a world title shot, potentially setting the stage for a unification clash between two of Britain’s prominent super-lightweight boxers. Such a fight would carry significant interest given the competitive rivalry and their standing within the division.
