Adam Peaty is preparing to take on a leadership role at the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, as he balances new personal milestones with his athletic career. Recently married to model Holly Ramsay-Peaty, daughter of chef Gordon Ramsay, Peaty has relocated to London to focus on training and to be closer to his new family. The couple is expecting their first child in early December.

Despite increased public attention surrounding his personal life, Peaty has emphasized his desire to channel external expectations into his performance in the pool. “Pressure can be given to anyone, but it’s probably best in my hands because the more pressure I’m under, the better I perform,” he said. Recognizing that managing distractions is integral to competition, Peaty expressed a commitment to letting his swimming achievements speak for themselves.

This will be Peaty’s fourth appearance at the Commonwealth Games, where he first emerged as a major international contender by winning gold in the 100m breaststroke at the 2014 Games. As one of the more experienced athletes on Team England, especially with gymnast Max Whitlock ruled out of the Glasgow event, Peaty is expected to serve as a leading figure and mentor to younger teammates. He acknowledged the responsibility this entails, highlighting the importance of empathy and support within the team environment.

“Not everyone is going to race how they want to. Some will swim out of their skin and others will have a few shockers. That’s just sport,” Peaty said. Reflecting on how fatherhood has influenced his perspective, he noted that it has deepened his capacity for understanding and kindness toward others’ experiences.

Peaty’s recent career has faced challenges, including a bout with COVID-19 and narrowly missing gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he took silver in the 100m breaststroke. He admitted that elements of complacency and ego may have contributed to those results. Now 31, he is focusing on rebuilding and fine-tuning his approach, with his sights set on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

“I want these Commonwealth Games to be a springboard and to come away confident in my ability to race the best in the world,” Peaty said. He underscored a shift in his attitude toward success, stating that he no longer measures it solely by medals but by the overall quality and presence he brings to competition. This renewed outlook signals a commitment to both personal growth and continued excellence as he advances in his swimming career.
